May 16 is National Lifejacket Day and the City of Nanaimo is working with the Canadian Red Cross to educate everyone on the importance of lifejacket safety.
At this eveng you can swim with aquatic staff, learn the characteristics of a lifejacket, learn how to wear one properly, practice entries and movements in the water wearing a lifejacket and everyone who attends has the chance to enter to win a new lifejacket!
*Every year, 161 Canadians drown while boating. Of these, 87% are not wearing a lifejacket or do not have it properly secured.
