The Nanaimo Youth Orchestra is a biweekly class for youth string players. This classical ensemble will help your child to improve his or her note-reading skills in a stimulating and fun environment. String players in Suzuki books 1-4 (RCM grade 2-6) who have some reading skills are welcomed. All music is created specifically for this group, meaning that each section is assigned material that is completely appropriate for their reading and playing skills.
Beginner players are given simple lines to help them become familiar with the staff and musical symbols. The most advanced players may shift to second and third position or play double stops. We will focus on learning pieces from the great composers of the past along with some world music and contemporary material. Students will develop an understanding of musical terms and a familiarity with composers and their works.
Fees are $80 for the first family member and $50 for additional family members for each of two terms. Fees are payable on September 1 and February 1.
