Town Hall Meeting: Addressing Key Issues Facing Our Community
Nanaimo, August 13th, 2024 – Concerned citizens are invited to attend a crucial Town Hall meeting to discuss pressing issues affecting our community. The meeting will focus on the following critical topics:
Local Taxation Increases: Property taxes have surged over the past six years, rising from $3,750 to $5,200 on an $850,000 home, with annual increases ranging from 3.0% to 7.7%, and a total increase of 38.1%. Do you feel you’re getting your money’s worth?
Alternative Approval Process (AAP): Despite failing twice, the AAP to build a new Operations Center (renamed to Public Works Yard again) is being proposed for a third time. Learn about the AAP process, and ask, "Why not hold a referendum for borrowing $90 million instead?"
New Farming Regulations: Vancouver Island produces only 3% of its own food, yet new water and land restrictions are putting local farming and food sustainability in jeopardy. In the event of a disaster, our three-day food supply could leave us vulnerable. Learn how new regulations are threatening local farming, reducing Vancouver Island’s food production, and jeopardizing our food sustainability.
Blanket Rezoning: The City has recently rezoned the entire city, allowing multi-unit developments and up to three homes on nearly any lot in residential neighborhoods without consultation.
Join us to voice your concerns and shape the future of our community.
