PacificSport is very proud to be hosting this event to showcase the top level of athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers that our city has to offer. Nanaimo is a truly great sports community. PacificSport looks forward to sharing this special evening with you and the featured athletes, coaches, officials, and volunteers.

The City of Nanaimo has a rich legacy of sport success and the Sport Achievement Awards are the perfect way to celebrate these accomplishments. The 2010 awards will recognize sport achievements of athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers in 15 different categories.

Funds raised from the Sport Achievement Awards banquet will be used in two ways. First, the funds will be used to cover the matching dollars committed by the Coast Bastion Inn that will go to the three high performance athletes: Andrea Lee (Cross Country Skiing), Trevor Nagy (Gymnastics), and Darah Provencal (Curling).

The athletes will then have access to $5,000 each to use at their discretion to cover the costs of their training and competition needs. These funds can be applied to travel costs to national and international competitions, equipment, sport medicine services like physiotherapy, massage treatments and sport psychology as well as sport science services or any other expense associated with their sport.

Secondly, any residual funds will be applied to the PacificSport XploreSportZ program. This is a program that resonates from the Coast Hotel management and staff as it provides support for programs targeting children who wish to learn leadership through Olympic values and participate in sport camp experiences.
