The Nanaimo International Jazz Festival is set to thrill jazz enthusiasts once again as it hosts its major fall festival from September 12 to 15. Organized by the Nanaimo International Jazz Festival Association, this annual event promises a vibrant celebration of jazz, with a rich lineup of performances and activities. We have a special event to help launch the 2024 Festival – "Jazz Me a Note" at the Vancouver Island Sculpting Studio on Friday, September 6th. An art exhibition, live jazz and a whole lot of fun! The heart of this year's festival will be on the Wesley Street Stage in the historic Old City Quarter, where a series of free performances will create an inviting and festive atmosphere. These performances are an excellent opportunity for the community and visitors alike to experience live jazz in an open, accessible setting, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds. Our highlight of the 2024 festival is the special Headliner Concert on Saturday, September 14, at The Port Theatre. *The Canadian All Stars Sextet*, featuring award-winning musicians Phil Dwyer and Christine Jensen, will deliver a spectacular performance that is sure to be a memorable experience for all attendees. This concert is a must-see, showcasing the talents of some of the finest jazz musicians in the country. The festival's reach extends beyond Wesley Street and The Port Theatre, as local bars and restaurants join in the celebration with live jazz music nightly. These venues offer a more intimate jazz setting, allowing patrons to experience live music in the welcoming atmosphere of Nanaimo's dining and nightlife scene. We also take the party to the waterfront on Saturday, September 14th, with our ever popular New Orleans style parade that begins at 11:30am at the pavilion in Maffeo-Sutton Park and culminates at the grassy knoll off of Front street. The Nanaimo International Jazz Festival is more than just a series of concerts; it is a celebration of community, culture, and the enduring appeal of jazz music. Whether you are a dedicated jazz aficionado or a casual listener, the festival provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the rich, soulful sounds of jazz and its many variations, surrounded by the scenic beauty of Nanaimo.
