Nanaimo Historical Society Annual General Meeting and special program. Bowen Park Complex, 500 Bowen Road, Room 1. "Shipwrecks of BC's Early Coal Trade" British Columbia is known for its shipwrecks.
What is less known is that many of these wrecks are associated with Nanaimo and coal mining. Nanaimo area coal mines relied on a steady stream of sail and steam ships to move coal to Pacific Rim markets. Join us as we explore the connection between early coal mining and the hazards of transporting Nanaimo's "black diamonds."
