Local author and historian, Doug Steel, will present and discuss some of the images and content in his soon to be released fourth book: Nanaimo: A Pictorial History.
A fourth generation Nanaimoite, Steel’s earlier accounts of Nanaimo history stand out for the human connection and personal anecdotes that the writer uses to connect local historical facts and dates. This method of first-person experiences handily fills between the lines of basic historical data by showing and involving the reader in stories Nanaimo’s past, from the author’s perspectives and experiences. Tonight, Steel will discuss images of the city from a then-and-now approach using both historical and contemporary photographs to compare and contrast our past with the present. By way of both hands-on research and personal memory Steel will recount images of Nanaimo places and businesses as well as local sports and culture across the decades. ==============================
