Nanaimo Fiddle Society Camp

Based on the huge success of our recent Fiddle Festival weekend, we have decided to offer something a bit different from the other camps you may be attending this summer. Rather than putting our focus on teaching as many tunes as possible, our teachers are going to teach fewer tunes during the week in order to help students master not only the notes but also the technical and stylistic elements of each tune.
Participants will still leave camp with new fiddle tunes, but they will also leave with improved technical skills and a deeper understanding of fiddle styles. We are excited to offer a guitar class this year.
Guitarists will spend the week with Ray Bell, and will use the fiddle tunes taught by the other instructors to learn about guitar techniques and styles. It is not possible to attend a mix of guitar and fiddle classes (please choose one instrument to focus on for the week), but we promise that Ray will offer a workshop or two during the week for fiddlers who also want to learn a bit of guitar.
We will offer something for every level of player, but please note that students should already have basic skills before coming to camp (i.e. a few scales, a few arpeggios, and some basic tunes). Guitar students should already know a few basic chords.
Our camp kick-off on Monday July 31 will start with student sign-in and placements, followed by a family dance. Everyone needs to come with one tune ready to play so the instructors can determine your class assignment. Doing the placements on Monday night means we can get right to work on Tuesday morning (woohooo!)
