6:30 PM to 9:00 PM

Nanaimo Family History Society (NFHS) is holding its monthly informative meeting and presentation. Upcoming is presenter Marianne Rasmus of Ottawa (ON) lecturing on “Ella’s Story: Expanding that Empty Branch on the Family Tree.”

Marianne poignantly reflects on the story of her husband’s Scottish War-Bride grandmother who had been adopted and how they used DNA applications to determine her parentage.

Ms. Rasmus discovered her passion for history in college and became obsessed with genealogy in 2008, uncovering long-lost family stories. She now shares these stories through engaging talks that blend history and research methods. Born and raised in Vancouver, Marianne had spent her life in BC, but when the opportunity for a mid-life adventure presented itself, she and her husband, Bill, took the plunge and moved to Ottawa in 2013 where she has been an active member of British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa since 2014. All monthly meetings of the Society are free to our members and held via Zoom, though are hybrid meetings in the spring and fall months.
