ZOOM & IN-PERSON – Nanaimo Family History Society (NFHS) is holding its monthly informative meeting and presentation. Upcoming is presenter Gordon McBean of Winnipeg (MB) lecturing on They Came Through Ontario.

Gordon McBean is the Past-President of the Manitoba Genealogical Society and the creator of our MANI database. He has seen the medium world shift from paper-based to hardware-based to now digital-based applications and in retirement Gordon continues to explore the new and ever-ongoing tools coming available to us in the field of genealogy. Gordon is also a recipient of the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers given by the Governor General of Canada.

The vast majority his wife’s ancestors lived in Ontario before migrating westward and hence the basis for his talk. One of his first challenges in researching her lineage was conducting the research from afar. Each family line posed different challenges and required the use of various research methods and tools. He will look at those many tools and their results during his investigations that saw evolving types of resources and techniques used to overcome his ancestor hunting problems.

All monthly meetings are free to our members and held via Zoom except in summer and fall months when hybrid meetings are offered.
