Nanaimo Christmas Bird Count 2019
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
It’s Christmas Bird Count Season! Every year since 1900, tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas take part in the annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC). Families and students, birders and scientists, armed with binoculars, bird guides and checklists go out on an annual mission - to count birds. Many organizations use data collected in this longest-running wildlife census to assess the health of bird populations and to help guide conservation action (https://www.audubon.org/conservation/science/christmas-bird-count).
The count covers 24 hours, midnight to midnight, but most field counters participate from dawn to dusk. You do not have to be an expert birder to help with this vital citizen science project. If you’d like to learn about birds and meet other birders, you are encouraged to participate. For those interested, please contact Tanya Seebacher at the email posted, explaining your level of birding experience and whether you have participated in a Christmas Bird Count previously.
