Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra, "Winds of March"

Oh, those March winds – and the breath of spring! And music to celebrate the new season. The Nanaimo Chamber Orchestra features the Faire Wynds wind players in a program titled, “Winds of March”. Whereas the NCO has traditionally been directed by Karl Rainer from the Concertmaster’s chair, this program will have Parksville’s Ann Barber-Becqué as Conductor. Faire Wynds will play Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Four Winds; oboe, clarinet, bassoon and French horm, a piece in 3 movements with variations, written in 1778 for a Parisian concert. Also on the program are Handel’s “Concerto Grosso #1”, Karl Jenkins’ “Palladio”, Ennio Morricone’s “Gabriel’s Oboe” (from The Mission) and Vaughan Williams’ “Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis”. This Fantasia is a wonderful 20th Century melding of two orchestras plus soloists in the re-structuring of the original Late Renaissance work of Tallis.
