1) Short presentation : Society Member, Rick Ulrich - 'Mirrors, Expansion and Universal Numbers'

2) Main Presentation : Working Professional Astronomer from the Hertzberg Institute in Victoria, Joel Roediger 'Life in the Big City - Galaxy Evolution in the Virgo Supercluster' Galaxy clusters, gravitationally-bound collections of thousands of galaxies, are like the big cities of the Universe. But whereas humans can grow and thrive in big cities, it is all about basic survival for galaxies in clusters.

At a minimum, the "pollution" a galaxy faces within a cluster will simply stunt its growth, while in the worst case strong gravitational forces will rip a galaxy completely apart. Arguably the best location in the Universe for us to better our understanding of galaxy evolution in such a hostile environment is the nearest one to us: the Virgo Cluster. In this talk I will describe what our group in Victoria is discovering about the galaxy population of Virgo based on our ultra-deep optical imaging survey of this region of the sky.
