Participants will meet at the intersection of Esplanade and Port Way in South Nanaimo.
Join artist Elisa Ferrari for a sound walk called [In a quiet voice.] "Meet me in silence where Esplanade meets Port Way” that takes participants into the urban environment to explore the unique acoustic ecologies of the Nanaimo Harbour and shipping wharf. Through encounters with ambient and pre-recorded sounds, the group will map the waterfront through the act of listening.
[In a quiet voice] “Meet me in Silence where Esplanade meets Port Way” takes place in conjunction the current exhibition Landfall and Departure: Prologue and Broadcast Archipelago, a multifaceted year long broadcasting project. Elisa Ferrari works with archival fragments to consider the act and implications of retrieval, through installation, performance, sound and photography. Born in Italy and based in Vancouver, Ferrari is a graduate of Emily Carr University Art and Design’s MAA program. Elisa was one of the inaugural residents on Access Gallery’s 23 Days at Sea floating residencies aboard container ships.
