As a component of the programming for our current exhibition Silva Part II: Booming Grounds join us for a performance by Jessica Lowry.

Local actor and director Jessica Lowry presents Clear Cut, a new solo performance about her family’s connections to forestry. Jessica Lowry comes from three generations of loggers- her great grandfather Earl Clarence Lowry was involved in logging on the island since the 1940s. Her grandfather Dale Lowry and his brother Pat Lowry had an independent logging company that had contracts all over Vancouver island. Her father, his twin brother and sister grew up around the logging industry and moved all over with the family. Her father described growing up this way as similar to growing up on a farm- they were part of it all.

Clear Cut is a collection of personal impressions and stories related to this industry weaved in with voices and stories from Jessica's father, aunt and uncle. Lowry explores different view points and themes using storytelling, photos, video, and audio clips.

Artist's Biography: Jessica Lowry is a performer, writer, yoga instructor and mother of three. She graduated with distinction from The University of Alberta's conservatory acting program. Jessica was awarded a scholarship to attend One Yellow Rabbit's Summer Lab, an intensive on performance creation. She is intrigued by the connections between yoga and the creative process and is currently studying to become a certified Iyengar yoga instructor. Jessica teaches yoga at the North Oyster Community Centre. Jessica will be performing in T.J Dawe's 52 Pick-Up with Nanaimo's TheatreOne in April.
