November 21 – Beauty in the Unexpected Edward Burtynsky’s photographs are highly expressive visions that find beauty and humanity in the most unlikely places. Working in pairs we will use the camera to search out the unexpected beauty around us; cracks in the pavement, rows of shoes, spilled milk, patterns created by light. Making small manipulations with paint markers we can then take home our images of the unexpected!
November 28 – Sketch & Paint with Emily Carr Emily Carr’s paintings of the forest will inspire our mark making and watery paint applications. Using vine charcoal and liquid acrylics, we will learn about mixing and blending colours to create rich dense surfaces evocative of the rich and complex beauty from the forest floor to the towering forest canopy.
December 5 – Mini Pop Up Art Gallery Let’s get in the spirit of pop up and curate our own mini pop up art show. We will visit the POP-UP Shop + Artwalk in Art Lab and then head down to our multi-purpose room to create our own miniature pop up gallery. Using boxes, cardboard, found objects, magazine cuttings and collage we will curate our own art show! Parents and friends welcome to visit the POP-UP Shop in Art Lab where you can enjoy a selection of handmade, unique artwork and treasures made by the artists and artisans you love. Pop-Up + Art Walk in Art Lab FRI DEC 4 | 5pm to 9pm SAT DEC 5 | 10am to 5pm SUN DEC 6 | 11am to 5pm
December 12 – Tree Ring Kaleidoscope We will take inspiration from artists Liz Magor and George Sawchuk whose wood based sculptures are currently on exhibit in the current show Silva Part 2: Booming Grounds. Emphasizing the growth rings with paint, we will arrange the wood slices to create a kaleidoscope of colour and pattern.
December 19 – Fire on Yupo In the current exhibition Silva Part 2: Booming Grounds, we learn about painter and storyteller Robert Guest who lived and worked in a forest watch tower. Inspired by his stories in the forest as fire watcher, we will create fiery patterns with red, orange and yellow acrylics on yupo paper.
Do you have a LEAP card? Your child may be eligible for a bursary. Two LEAP spots are available each week; one per family. Each family is welcome to use up to 2 LEAP spots per month.
