Forest in a Basket: Coast Salish Cedar Weaving (Registration code: 133331) Saturday January 24 and 31 from 10:00 - 4:00pm This workshop will take you step-by-step through the process of creating a woven basket using an array of different tree barks (cedar, willow etc.) Learn about different natural materials and their properties, and how the cedar tree plays an integral role in the spiritual beliefs and ceremonial life of coastal First Nations, while creating a one-of-a-kind basket. At the end of this 2 day workshop you will have created a “forest in a basket” to enjoy and use for years to come. Check out Record and (Re)create: Contemporary Coast Salish Art from the Salish Weave Collection at the campus gallery January 8-April 11 to experience how Coast Salish artists work with form and various materials.
