The Nanaimo Museum is offering child-friendly programs for families this fall. Geared towards children under the age of 5 years, the My 1st Museum Visit program incorporates hands-on activities into a visit to the museum.
Programs take place on the last Tuesday of each month including September 29, October 27, and November 24 from 10am – 12pm.
My 1st Museum Visit features activities for parents or caregivers to do with their children. Activities include an I-Spy game designed for smaller children, petroglyph rubbings and a chance to sit at desks in the school exhibit to write on chalk boards or colour. Enjoy the specially designed self-guided Touch tour for hands-on experiences.
This new program promises a combination of fun and learning for young families. “We’ve been looking for an opportunity to encourage more families with preschool children to visit the museum,” says Aimee Greenaway, Interpretation Curator at the Nanaimo Museum. “The activities will be fun for young kids and will hopefully make parents feel comfortable about bringing toddlers to visit the museum.”
The activities are available on a drop-in basis from 10am – 12pm on September 29, October 27, and November 24. There is no pre-registration and admission is included in regular admission rate. Caregivers must be with their children at all times during the program.
The museum is located in the Vancouver Island Conference Centre, beside Serious Coffee.
