This concert program will include love songs by Andre Previn, which feature the sultry sounds of the alto flute. Brenda Fedorukindex is currently Principal Flute of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra, a position she has held for more than 20 years, and a core member of Vancouver’s esteemed Turning Point Ensemble. As a long time member (Flute and Piccolo) of the CBC Radio Orchestra, she was also the Musicians’ Contractor until the orchestra’s disbanding in 2008. A busy freelance player, she has performed often with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, has been Guest Principal Flutist with the Victoria Symphony Orchestra, and has played with the touring orchestras of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the National Ballet. Ms. Fedoruk’s discography includes many CDs on the SM5000 series with the CBC Radio Orchestra, several discs on the Artifact, Atma and CentreDisc labels with the Turning Point Ensemble, the Skylark label with Chor Leoni and the Elektra Women’s Choir and several private labels featuring The Vancouver Men’s Chorus and music by three Hornby Island Composers. Her acclaimed solo CD, I Remember (with mezzo-soprano Sarah Fryer) features two world premier recordings: Michael Cohen’s From the Wall and Owen Underhill’s Remember.

Sarah Fryer has appeared on concert platforms throughout Europe and in Canada, the US, Mexico, and Singapore. She made her professional debut as mezzo soloist in Mozart’s Requiem Mass in Wells Cathedral, UK, at the age of sixteen. Career highlights include six years as a soloist at the Bayreuth Festival, and roles in opera productions in Nantes, Turin, Dublin, and at La Scala, Milan. Sarah has recorded for BBC and CBC radio, and for the Naxos and Nimbus record labels. She has been a soloist at many prestigious festivals including The Three Choirs Festival, Taormina Arte, and The Aldeburgh Festival. Concert highlights include Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, directed by Bramwell Tovey, Mozart’s Requiem with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, directed by David Hill, and R. Strauss’s opera Elektra (Dritte Magd) with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, directed by Kent Nagano. In Canada, in addition to many performances with the Victoria and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras, Sarah has performed as guest soloist with the Toronto Symphony, CBC Orchestra, Calgary Philharmonic and Regina Symphony. She is an experienced recitalist and performed Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder accompanied by Bramwell Tovey at the Orpheum Theatre last season. This season, Sarah will sing Elgar’s Sea Pictures and a new commission by British composer Francis Pott with the Philharmonia Orchestra at The Royal Festival Hall, London.

Shoko Inoue is a prize-winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, first prize winner for contemporary music of the Frinna Awerbuch Competition, and first prize winner of the Chopin Competition in New York where she made her Carnegie Hall debut. She is active as a soloist, chamber musician and recitalist throughout North America, Japan and Europe. Among her notable appearances are solo recitals at the 9th Annual World Piano Pedagogy Conference in Las Vegas and at the Shostakovich Festival in Rome’s St. Cecilia Hall. She has also had many solo concerts at the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. Shoko Inoue was born in Tokyo Japan, where she began playing the piano at the age of three. She studied with renowned teachers Shun Sato and Takashi Hironaka. Following her successful appearance at the Casadesus International Competition, she traveled to the United States to study at the Cleveland Institute of Music under full scholarship with Sergei Babayan, celebrated concert pianist, teacher, and artist in residence. Her studies continued with Marc Durand and John Perry in Toronto. Ms. Inoue is committed to enhancing life through music. Sergei Babayan has noted that her “interpretations are born of utmost integrity and sincerity that set her apart from other musicians.”

Performing highlights include Prokofiev’s Concerto #2 in G minor, opus 16 with Oshawa Symphony, a trio concert in Florida with Pinchas Zukerman and Amanda Forsyth, as well as a piano duo concert with Sergei Babayan in Cleveland.
