Montreal: The Bloody Origins of Canadas First Metropolis
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Much of Montreal’s appeal today is due to its reputation as a cosmopolitan city with world-class institutions. But for two centuries before its industrial transformation into a metropolis ruled by a gilded elite, Montreal was a vulnerable frontier outpost and its population—Indigenous, European, and African—swept up in the maelstrom of colonialism. Join Dr. Peter Cook for a guided tour through the landscapes of pre-industrial Montreal and a reflection on the significance of its colonial past. This talk is part of the Department of History’s popular Cafe Historique series at Hermann’s Jazz Club in downtown Victoria.
