Monteverdi 1610 Vespers
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
This collection of songs, psalms and instrumental pieces is a sacred work composed in honour of Mary the mother of Jesus - but it sounds like one part dance music, one part opera, with a jazzy walking bass line! The largest and most complex choral work before the time of J.S. Bach shows Claudio Monteverdi's mastery of Renaissance techniques and the 'new' baroque style. Come enjoy the dramatic choruses, ethereal soprano lines, and 17th century vocal effects! Peter Butterfield conducts a multi-part choir, ten soloists, and an orchestra of more than 20 players, including specialists on sackbuts, cornetti and lutes, some of whom are coming from Montreal and Seattle.
Festival seating, and doors will open by 7.30. Advance tickets are recommended.
