Mlange II
Moka House Coffee Shoal Point
Fishermans Wharf, Victoria, BC
September 2 29, 2013
Bringing together two highly creative local artists whose works and artistic view points are unique, moving and insightful, Carron Berkes and Rob Vickery present Mlange II: a diverse array of two-dimensional works in acrylics, mixed media and photography. Free event. Suitable for all ages and family members.
The Artists
Carron Berkes is an internationally collected local artist who enjoys painting, sculpture and photography. Working as a multi-media visual artist in painting (acrylics and watercolours), mixed media, recycled art and found objects, her many colourful themes include the natural world (plants, animals and landscapes), abstraction, figurative and whimsical narratives. Works presented in this show speak of subtle and vibrant energy, light, color, shape and form. Infused with simplicity and imagination, her art blends realism (Pears, Happiness) with abstractive interpretations of the physical world (Daydream Series). Carron will show acrylic and mixed media works.
Rob Vickery creates two and three-dimensional art, including drawings, hand-built ceramic sculpture, mixed-media, paintings and photography. The body of work presented in this show is primarily about the quality of light that comprises the physical world, yet hints at a light within the self, and offers a glimpse of lifes subtle inner nature. Blending physically recognizable objects found in nature with the play of light, Vickery's photographic works contain subtle spiritual undertones, hinting that there might be something more to this world worth appreciating. His mixed-media works are a mlange of many qualities: subtle, quiet, introspective, silent; texturedboth real and implied, they reveal a narrative of physical rhythms and undercurrents, and possibly of a greater awareness of being. Photographic, mixed media and acrylic works will be featured. His works are in private collections in Canada, Thailand, Japan and America.
