Mid-Island Contra Dance!
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
New England Contra dancing is the most fun you can have standing up!
The music is lively and so is the dancing.
Live fiddle music accompanies the dancing. Tunes vary between Celtic, Quebecois, Appalachian, Eastern European, and other styles.
After the lesson at 7:00 PM, the caller teaches and prompts each dance. The dance steps are easy to learn, which means most of the time you are dancing.
No need to bring a partner, you will be with a new partner each dance.
There is a break in the middle of the dance and a last waltz at the end. This is a non alcoholic event and fun for the whole family. Everyone is welcome, so come enjoy the dancing and meet some other nice folks as well.
Contra dance started in New England in the early 1700s and in Europe even earlier, when peasants took over the English court dances and made them their own. It is related to English and Scottish country dance, Irish cil, and square dancing.
