Diverse Social Housing Proposal for Autonomous Societies Presentation and Information session. Many have spent hours listening to 10-year plans and pledges to end homelessness. Some progress has been made but the problem of homelessness rages on and gets worse with passing time. Most housing proposals operate within a closed framework.

What can the government do? How much money can we raise and what about all the chronically sick people living on the village green. Even when buildings were bought or donated and the homeless were scooped up and housed in the buildings, this caused an even bigger problem. People isolated from the only community they had got even sicker. The neighbor’s hated the buildings lowering the tone of the place and mentally ill people were routinely evicted for showing signs of their mental illness. Security people were brought in to the buildings creating a punitive and institutional environment and hence more problems and evictions. Rents went unpaid for those who could not manage money or hydro bills and hospitals admissions did not drop: The opposite in fact.

Kym A. Hines a long time member of Committee To End Homelessness Victoria and guest’s happily agreed to present on Micro Housing Villages, Mini Tent City Villages and why community building is needed, not just buildings.
