MEC Bike Maintenance 201: Wheel Truing Clinic
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Bike Maintenance 201 is designed for the more advanced cyclist* who wants to learn how to work on their own bike. Our advanced 201 clinics are held every Thursday and cost $20 to attend.
All 201 clinics are led by a mechanic, and are hands-on. A smaller class size will help to really get you involved and learn a new skill.
*Bike Maintenance 101 is a prerequisite to this intermediate clinic.
Wheel Truing - 201
At the end of this clinic participants will:
- Understand why truing is necessary
- Be familiar with lateral true, radial true, and dishing as well as the way in which these three aspects of wheel trueness affect the bicycle as a whole. i.e. brake adjustment, frame clearance, tire wear, handling
- Learn why proper hub adjustment is essential for proper wheel truing
- Learn the steps in truing a wheel
- Learn how to destress a wheel and avoid spoke wind up
- Learn what tools are needed to true wheels and which tools can be purchased at MEC
- Be aware of MEC’s Bike Shop Services
A wheel and all tools required will be supplied for the duration of the clinic. If you wish to bring your bike, we will assess the ability to work on it on a case-by-case basis, but please understand that you may not be able to.
**This clinic is 2hrs in length
*Clinics are non-refundable, but are transferable.
