MAY'd on the ROCK: Community Hall Dance Party is an old-school long weekend dance with three bands on a Saturday night, a food truck and a cash bar. Get your dance on! Between sets you'll be entertained by none other than the ambassador for Gabriola: Pam McCartney, MC extraordinaire!
Meet our opening band: Road Poets Road Poets is an uptempo Gabriola Rock band playing bluesy story songs written by Dave Teichroeb. Dancey 90’s style riff rock with a message. Dave commands lead vocals and guitar, Kelly Field rocks the bass, Tone master Chris Wood on lead guitar and vocals, with Warren Fraleigh kicking it old school on drums. In Dave’s words, “Kinda like when Neil plays with Crazy Horse.”
Meet second up for the Dance Party: 2 Sailing Wait. 2 Sailing Wait is the rock ‘n’ crew that’s turning Gabriola Island into one big dance party—one ferry wait at a time. Hailing from the quirky corners of the island, they rehearse on the Gertie community bus and in the ferry waiting room (because who needs a fancy studio when you have public transportation and endless sea views?). Featuring Phil “Philthy” Frisson on vocals, guitar, and keys, Fraser “Stumbleweed” Gabbott wailing on guitar, harmonica, and vocals, Mike “Ryobi Man” Mead rocking the bass (and vocals!), and Michael “Def Lefty” Carey pounding the drums and vocals, this group covers the classics to make you dance and eventually hope to become bona fide rock stars—at least in the hearts of anyone waiting for the next ferry!
Meet our closing band: Rockson Road Rockson Road is a Rock & Blues band plays carefully constructed rock anthems that make you want to get up out of your seat and “shake what your momma gave you.” Nathan Sobko leads the band as the songwriter, lead vocals, lead guitar, and rhythm guitar; joined by Thomas Jacobson on keyboard; Jose Vieira on lead guitar, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals; Derek Mattes on drums; Tomas Jackson on the bass guitar and backing vocals. Their inspiration spans classic rock of the 60s through to the 80s. All their songs are original and can be described as lyrical, energetic, soulful, passionate, and DANCEABLE.
