Mattina Musica returns to the Comox Valley for an exciting third season.
Italian for Morning Music, Mattina Musica is a 5 concert series of classical music, each taking place on a Monday morning. Patrons are warmly invited to meet in the Sid lobby at 9:45 am for tea, coffee, and conversation before the 10:30 am concert.
The series is hosted by pianist Sarah Hagen, who is thrilled to have flautist Krzysztof Kaczka, cellist Ariel Barnes, harpist Heidi Krutzen, violinist Martin Chalifour, tenor Ken Lavigne, and violist Vaida Rozinskaite bring their world-class artistry to the Comox Valley. The musicians, all known for their perceptive, eloquent and entertaining commentary, will take time to offer personal insights into the music.
Can you think of a better way to spend a Monday morning?
For the final concert in this season's Mattina Musica, violist Vaida Rozinskaite joins pianist Sarah Hagen in a programme of Schumann and Schubert.
Originally from Lithuania, Vaida now makes her home in Frankfurt, Germany, where she is a sought-after freelance musician and invited to play in chamber recitals around the world. Sarah and Vaida first met at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2004 and have since performed together in Canada and in Germany.
Vaida Rozinskaite - Viola
Lithuanian born viola player Vaida Rozinskaite started her intensive musical career as a concert and chamber musician during her studies in the classes of Hariolf Schlichtig, Thomas Riebl and Diemut Poppen.
As a member of numerous chamber music ensembles Vaida Rozinskaite is frequently invited to play in Europe, Canada, South America, China, Singapur, Malaysia and Indonesia. Her chamber music partners have included Paul Coletti, Christoph Richter, Ida Levin, Oleg Kogan, Silke Avenhaus, Nicolas Altstdt, Sayaka Shoji and Alain Trudel. She has participated in many festivals, including the Open Chamber Music Fastival in Prussia Cove, Schwetzinger Festspiele, Hambacher Musikfestival, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Norre Vosborg Chamber Musik Festival, Festival Musical de los Siete Lagos (Argentina), and Salzburger Festspiele.

Vaida Rozinskaites development as an artist was hugely influenced by her participation in the master courses with Erich Hbarth, Ferenc Rados, the Cleveland Quartet and the Amadeus Quartet. Of great importance was the education she received in the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada and her annual attendance to IMS Prussia Cove in England.
Vaida has received scholarships from the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now foundation in Munich and the Mainz-based Villa Musica Foundation. With her former string quartet Quadriga, she has recorded for SWR and WDR.
Vaida plays a viola made by Valentinus De- Zorzi, Firenze 1887.
