Almost thirteen years ago to the day, the Belfry produced Stephen Massicote's beautiful play, Mary's Wedding.
Pacific Opera Victoria subsequently commissioned and developed an opera based on the play and premiered it in 2011.
Mary's Wedding is a love letter to the power of memory and innocence, and to a generation of Canadians who were caught in the crucible of the First World War. The story is eternal. Boy meets girl. They fall in love. But the year is 1914, and Mary and Charlie must surrender their love and their fate to the uncertainties of their tumultuous times.
In commemoration of Remembrance day, Pacific Opera Victoria will be holding a special public performance of Mary's Wedding on Tuesday, November 10 at 7 pm at the Victoria High School Theatre, 1260 Grant Street.
