MARINE NIGHT Respect Your Elders: Rockfish Conservation in the Salish Sea There are more than 30 species of rockfish in B.C., some more than 200 years old. Many species of rockfish are in peril in B.C.’s waters, and despite conservation efforts, recovery in the Strait of Georgia is slow.
Dr. Natalie Ban, Associate Professor, UVic and Jenna Falk, Galiano Conservancy Association will tell the story of a partnership among the University of Victoria, the Galiano Conservancy Association and Valdes Island Conservancy, seeking to understand why compliance with conservation rules is lackluster, and acting to turn the tide for rockfish.
