Award-winning author Lynne Bowen is set to launch her latest book. Those Island People is a collection of stories about interesting and often unknown Vancouver Islanders. The Nanaimo Museum will host the book launch on Monday, February 17 from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

The book Those Island People was inspired by a monthly column Lynne Bowen wrote for the Times Colonist newspaper 10 years ago. The stories cover a diverse group of people in regions all over Vancouver Island. Each column was devoted to a person who lived on Vancouver Island but whose story was not widely known, including gold seekers and gamblers, former slaves and veteran soldiers, missionaries and rabble rousers. The book will include additional stories about Islanders that Bowen has since collected.

Lynne Bowen found many of the stories by chance while researching other projects. "I discovered the story of Ted and Evelyn Wardroper while researching a book on Robert Dunsmuir," says Lynne Bowen. "Evelyn lived most of her life in the Dunsmuir's former home in Departure Bay. Long after the house had been demolished, I was asking Evelyn questions about her former home and the fascinating story of the Wardroper's lives came out."

Those Island People will be published by Rocky Point Books and the Nanaimo Museum. "The Nanaimo Museum is pleased to publish Lynne Bowen's new book," says Debbie Trueman, Manager of the Nanaimo Museum. "We have worked closely with Lynne for many years and regularly refer to her books for exhibit and program research."

The official book launch, and your first chance to buy a signed copy, will be at the Nanaimo Museum on Monday, February 17 from 3:00-5:00. For more information, please contact the museum at (250) 753-1821 or visit www.nanaimomuseum.ca
