The Lonely Heartstring Band is a five-piece New Acoustic band from Boston.

It performs a mix of original and traditional tunes from the old-time, bluegrass, folk, and jazz idioms. Young and exciting with a wide range of lyrical and complex instrumental tunes, they are developing a solid following in the East Coast American acoustic scene. In 2015 the International Bluegrass Association awarded them their Momentum Award for "best new band."

Four of the members of the band (Patrick M’Gonigle, Gabe Hirshfeld, Matt Witler and George Clements) met at Berklee College of Music where they specialized in the American Roots Programme. The fifth member, Charles Clements, studied at the New England Conservatory and the Manhatten School of Music. This concert is part of their summer 2106 tour. They will be promoting their new Rounder Records CD, “Deep Waters.” The Band has a Victoria connection through their fiddler/vocalist, Patrick M’Gonigle, who grew up in the city.  "These guys are as close to the Real Deal as it is possible to get. "They were not just good but absolutely fantastic and in fact I was quite blown away. I loved their mix of songs It was magnificent. The harmonies were lovely…. I am totally in love with the whole group.   Wow!! Bravo!!  It was great!  My what good musicians they all are - it looks like so much fun…. Would not have missed it for anything…they really made the room vibrate last night. I was just speaking with a friend who is a classically trained violinist, and she said that the performance was the best she’s ever attended, in any musical genre. I’ve heard rave reviews from every side…. virtuoso musicianship….listened [to the CD] in the car on the way home and stayed up until after 1:00 a.m. playing the songs.   There aren’t enough superlatives in existence to describe the beauty and joy of the Lonely Heartstring Band’s songwriting and performance – both live and recorded…. I wanted to be among the first to e-mail and say - OH MY GOSH!!! WHAT AN AMAZING CONCERT this evening!!! They generated such warmth and humour among themselves and with the audience!  When music makes me tear, I know its great! Never even knew I liked bluegrass but I have very eclectic tastes in music. Such a great bunch of musicians… What great energy there was in that amazing room, and the guys were so funny and charming (not to mention a world-class calibre of musicians). The band was really, really incredible! I met three of my friends there and they were absolutely stunned by the performance. My heart was so full the other night...the music was truly mind blowing...I expected top notch music of course but this was beyond belief, good in all aspects--the vocal work and arrangements, lyrics and diversity let alone musicianship ...so smooth all the way, they have it all...
