LNG Townhall: No Fracking with our Future!

The public has heard lots promises about the economic benefits of a proposed LNG industry, powered by gas fracking in northeast BC. But are these claims credible? And what sort of environmental trade-off would the industry bring?

From the frackfields of northeastern BC to the many proposed gas pipelines and up to 18 LNG terminals vying for approval along the northwest coast, Howe Sound, Delta, and Vancouver Island, join us as we drill down on the myths and realities of this industry, through an evening of multi-media presentations and film.

The Mid Island chapter of the Council of Canadians are presenting a town hall meeting for a discussion on the ramifications of fracking and LNG development. The event features speakers, Damien Gillis, a Vancouver-based documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist with the Common Sense Canadian and Dr. Eoin Finn, a retired KMPG partner, PhD in physical chemistry and MBA international business, and member of My Sea to Sky & The Future of Howe Sound.

About the Speakers

Damien Gillis is a Vancouver-based documentary filmmaker and investigative journalist with a focus on environmental and social justice issues, especially relating to water, energy, and saving Canada’s wild salmon. He is the co-director of the soon to be released film ‘Fractured land’, the story of Caleb Behn, an inspiring, young First Nations law student from northeast BC, working to defend his peoples’ land from some of the most intense industrial activity in the world. Damien is also co-founder of the online publication The Common Sense Canadian

Dr. Eoin Finn is a retired KMPG partner, with a PhD in physical chemistry and MBA international business. He is a 30 year part time resident of Bowyer Island in Howe Sound and is actively involved with The Future of Howe Sound Society and My Sea to Sky, two community groups who have been active in raising concern and opposition to the Woodfibre LNG project currently proposed for Howe Sound. His talk will focus on the economics of exporting LNG from BC and public safety and pollution concerns about LNG plants and tankers.
