Lilith Fair Almost There
BCs Top Female Songwriters Announce Joint Tour

VANCOUVER, B.C.. Four of B.C.s best female singer-songwriters will tour BC together this fall, performing in Kelowna, Nelson, Vancouver and Victoria. All four placed in the top six of Vancouvers Lilith Local Talent Search, an online songwriting contest geared towards drumming up new talent for Sarah McLachlans Lilith tour. Aspen Switzer, Kim McMechan, Genevieve Rainey and Elaine Ryan will be making their first stop in Kelowna to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Womens Resource Centre.

These fantastic musicians will be presenting their songs in an in the round format, blending their voices to create soulful harmonies and backing each other up on piano, guitar and percussion. Each performer brings to the stage her own unique style and range. Stirred together they make a sonically sumptuous treat, a taste of which cannot be resisted.

Aspen Switzer is a Nelson-based singer-songwriter whose second album, Humble but Bearing No Apology, won best Folk/Traditional Recording of the Year and best Roots/World Recording of the Year at the 2009 BC Interior Music Awards. Since releasing her first CD in 2006 Aspen has performed for audiences from Victoria to Charlottetown. Shes played diverse venues, Fringe festivals (including the 2009 Victoria Fringe) and music festivals like the Salmon Arm Roots and Blues festival.

Genevieve Rainey has been dazzling audiences since playing clubs in Montreal as a teen. She writes songs like a cowgirl lassoes a wayward calf. You can almost hear her chasing an idea around the muddy corral of thought, wrapping her mind around its legs and dragging it home for dinner. Genevieve won first runner up in the 10th Annual Canadian Music Week National Songwriting contest.

Award-winning poet and songwriter Kim McMechan is set to record a new full-length album with Canadian producer Colin Linden this fall. She currently balances a busy creative life with raising her two young daughters. She is well known for her songs released on four compilation albums with Vineyard Music Group, which have collectively sold almost 90,000 copies to date.

Elaine Ryan is just back from her first cross-Canada tour and shes been making waves with her debut full-length album, Songs from the River, released this May. Elaine was shortlisted for Vancouver Shore 104 FMs summer song contest this year, earning her coveted commercial radio play. She has won songwriting contests, busked across Europe, and played at festivals in Austin, Montreal, Toronto, Maui and B.C.
