Play Synopsis: Robert Godfrey, a critically acclaimed novelist suffering from acute writer's block, purchases a dilapidated Greenwich Village townhouse. His singular focus is to restore the house to its original condition and use it as inspiration in writing his new novel. As an escape from the challenges of his work, Robert becomes engrossed in the pages of the diary of Juliet Thompson, a long- deceased occupant of the house. Juliet, a painter, is suffering a creative block connected with a tumultuous romantic relationship. All the while, her mothering roommate Daisy, her enlightened neighbour and friend Kahlil Gibran, and her pragmatic house guest, Dmitri, are on hand to give her advice. The play moves between the two stories as their plots begin to intertwine. While the play maintains the character of a light comedy throughout, it slowly reveals serious undertones relating to themes of faith, the significance of tests, and life after death. The play features original music by Vancouver composer Farshid Samandari, played live on piano and violin.
