Latin Dance Classes

The Globe Hotel will be hosting Group Latin dance classes with veteran Colombian dance instructor Ricky Lalinde. The upstairs dance floor of the globe will be dedicated for the classes and allows ample room for Ricky to start teaching you a variety of dance styles. The Globe restaurant will also be serving a full menu of food and beverage throughout the night. Bring your partner down to the beautiful Globe hotel, grab an evening meal on our ocean view patio and take your first steps into Latin dance.

Classes: 7pm - 8:30pm (1.5 hours)
Social dance: 8:30pm -9:30pm

Cost: $10

About Ricky Lalinde:
born in Cartagena, Colombia, Ricky is a canadian citizen who has been dancing all his life. He has teaching Latin dancing since he was a teenager and has taught in Colombia, Venezuela, USA and Canada, as well as worked for numerous dance studios and Private, Semiprivate, and group classes.

The Dancing Styles:

Salsa:
Colombian style "on 1" is the most popular Latin dance. It originated in the mid-1970s in New York with strong influences from Latin America.

Merengue:
Dominican dance and probably the easiest Latin dance revolving mostly around moving hips from side to side.

Cha-cha-cha:
Cuban origin dance and it's danced "on 2"

Bachata:
Original dance style from Dominican Republic. It uses basic dance sequences in a full 8 count moving within a square.

Champeta:
Originated among inhabitants of African descent of the Colombian city of Cartagena. The word �champeta� originally denoted a short, curved knife of the same name, used in the region at work, in the kitchen and as an offensive weapon. The word is first known to have been used as a cultural identifier in the 1920s. It was used to identify a dance in the1970s and a musical genre in the 1980s.
