Ladysmith Heritage Afloat: A Celebration of the Maritime Heritage of our Community

Presented by the Ladysmith Maritime Society and the Heritage Revitalization Advisory Commission with participation from local groups and non-profit societies.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the history and fascinating life on our shores in Ladysmith Harbour, once known as Oyster Harbour. Signs for the event will be on the highway coming into Ladysmith. Greeters will be giving out brochure maps with the events and locations. Volunteers will be sharing stories and knowledge about our waterfront heritage at the various land and water sites.
ACTIVITIES ON LAND
-Heritage Boat Restoration Shop � guided tour
-Ladysmith Arts Council - Waterfront Gallery and Studios open
-LMS Office
- Model ship display and local art/photography for sale
- Vintage Outboard motor display with a special exhibit in remembrance of Gary Dalby plus a Cowichan Bay Wooden Boat Society dinghy display
-Harbour Heritage Centre � discover the canoes, ships, boats and scows used in our harbour
-Amphitheatre circle � Kids� Model Boat building and sailing them in an on-shore tank and marine conservation interactive activities for all ages offered by the Cetus Research and Conservation Society
ACTIVITIES ON THE WATER
-Harbour Tours on the Maritimer by donation. Tours will run every half hour between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm.
-The Maritime Museum � See the Communication, Navigation and Safety exhibits, Shipwright Tools, and discover the story of the Rainbow Skiff Dinghy.
-The Welcome Centre - open with seating and a slideshow presentation
See a cedar dugout canoe and art displays from Stz �minus First Nations
Students� art work on our theme will be displayed here and at other locations
Enjoy the lively music of Ewan�s group.
The Heritage Boat Shed � photographic panels sharing the history of the Saravan tug boat and the C. A. Kirkegaard, a classic wooden crew boat.
LUNCH ON THE DOCK
Enjoy a burger or hotdog and a drink at the Rotary Food Tent on the community dock . All Proceeds will go to help eradicate Polio in the World.
ON THE DOCKS
Along the docks will be a wide array of moored boats including some special guests:
-The Coastal Mission�s Coastal Messenger and crew
-The Coast Guard�s Ladysmith Responder and their brand new boat and crew
-Peter and Pat Moseley�s 1950 Wooden Troller Fishing Boat, named Blaze
-and others not confirmed yet.
