On The Whiplash Curve, named for the tensile line that defined Art Nouveau, Kristia Di Gregorio takes us on an escapist journey through the Belle poque and introduces us to unruly women of the turn of the 20th century... stealing pearls, dancing on tables and loosening the corset strings. Women who flirted and flitted through the Golden Age only to face the biggest curve the world could have thrown at them...

In 2011, after a close call on a river that nearly drowned her, Kristia Di Gregorio began her return to music after many years of musical lull. The violence of the water unleashed a torrent of writing as many stories collected over the years sought expression. Still, it took the pain of losing her father and fracturing her back some months later to convince her to hurry into the studio. Time is an uncertain thing and recording could not wait.

Instead of the confessional and intimate writing you'd expect of a songwriter who had spent years on the coffeehouse circuit, something bolder emerged. Always a bit of a historian, escapism led to her fusion of personal events with tales of the Belle poque. Perhaps it was easier to sing of the years of loss and strange coincidence living beside a brothel if it were channeled through the story of a Maison Close of times past.

Under the immaculate attention of producer Joby Baker (Alex Cuba, Cowboy Junkies) the arrangements on The Whiplash Curve create a lush and evocative setting for stories of madams, soldiers, kept women and merchant sailors. Kristia is joined by a stellar cast of musicians such as Richard Moody, Adrian Dolan, Quinn Bachand, von Loewen and Tony Di Gregorio.

The Whiplash Curve, set for release on March 22, 2014, blends songs of painters pushing boundaries of convention, mad musicians and the immortal aspirations of courtesans, with musette tones, gypsy influences and deeply elegant ballads heavy with strings.

Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2006 Vancouver Island Music Awards. Kristia has been featured on the Girls with Guitars album series (Maximum Music / Universal Music Canada) alongside such artists as Coco Love Alcorn and Christa Couture. Kristia has showcased at Music West, the Western Canadian Music Awards, and Canadian Music Week, and has performed at The Queen Elizabeth Theatre, The Orpheum, and The Vogue Theatre.
