Knox Presents... Folk singer/songwriter Shari Ulrich with her Trio in Concert – Sunday, May 7th - 2:30 pm, at Knox United Church, 345 Pym Parksville.

Tickets: $20/advance, $25/door at Knox and Mulberry Bush Book Stores. Legendary singer/songwriter, Shari Ulrich, returns to Oceanside with daughter, Julia Graff and fellow High Bar Gang member, Kirby Barber. These gifted multi-instrumentalists, deliver incomparable folk/bluegrass vocal harmonies which will amaze and delight!

Shari is a warm, engaging and quick-witted performer whose love and appreciation of music is evident and contagious. She has been an important figure in the Canadian music scene for many years, with 23 albums to her credit. She is known as an accomplished solo artist and has also partnered up with a variety of musicians over the years. Shari has acquired two Juno Awards, several Juno nominations and been honoured with a well-deserved induction into the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame.

Her song ideas are inspired by a fearlessly intertwined approach to life and song writing, unafraid to speak and write openly about every personal issue she has come across. “Writing and living get rolled into one,” she says. “I can't imagine what I would feel is off limits (to write about).” You may remember Shari as one-third of the infamous Pied Pumkin String Ensemble. Die-hard Pumkin fans recall Ulrich’s violin, mandolin, flute, dulcimer, guitar, and saxophone playing as well as her incomparable voice. Shari was an integral part of Valdy & The Hometown Band and also collaborated with long-time friends, Bill Henderson and Roy Forbes, forming UHF, the much praised acoustic/vocal trio with whom she continues to record and perform. Her more recent collaborations have been with Barney Bentall and Tom Taylor, as a new trio, BTU, (releasing their second album “Tightrope Walk” in 2016, and also with Bentall in a new bluegrass band, the High Bar Gang (recently nominated for a Juno award).

Julia Graff, Shari's daughter, is an accomplished instrumentalist in her own right and a graduate of McGill University’s Schulich School of Music with a Master of Music Degree in Sound Recording. Since she was 12, Julia has joined her mother on stage playing violin, guitar, piano, accordion, mandolin and vocals and will be joining her for this show. Julia engineered and co-produced both Shari’s most recent album and the newest BTU album.

Kirby Barber, who accompanies Ulrich on vocals, guitar and bass in this concert, is also part of the High Bar Gang. Kirby is setting down solid roots in the music industry and making a name for herself, playing everything from country and bluegrass, to blues and classical. You won't want to miss this chance to treat yourself to an afternoon of great folk/bluegrass music, with amazing harmonies played on an awesome variety of instruments.
