9:00 PM to 1:00 AM

Salt Spring’s own Kemal Evans returns to Moby’s Pub on April 11.

Kemal Evans combines original songwriting with infectious melodies and danceable rhythms. His sound is a mix of soul, rock, hip-hop and reggae. From acoustic grooves to free-style rhyming, his live shows are always exciting and fresh.

Following his 2008 debut CD “No Pressure System”, Kemal formed the Kemal Evans Project (KEP). The KEP is best described as original and captivating with amazing harmonies.

Having toured Western Canada extensively (also opening for such names as Jully Black, Gift of Gab & The Mighty Underdogs and Naughty by Nature), Kemal Evans is an up-and-comer that has caught the ear of music industry heavyweights Virgin Radio (Vancouver) and the 2010/2011 Canadian Music Week Conference in Toronto. Kemal's songwriting talent won him the 2010 Astral Media Radio Star Songwriting competition and is now working on his second album with producer Roger Swan (K-os, Swollen Members, The Rascalz)... You can hear 5 of these songs in his EPK (#1-5).

Kemal Evans roots run deep in music and the West Coast. His musical influences include everyone from Sublime and Ben Harper to A Tribe Called Quest. Although the KEP's music makes for a shaking good time, beneath the bright, highly rhythmic surface, there is a soulful thoughtfulness. Performing with the KEP or as a solo artist, Kemal will reach out and move you.
