Journal Writing Workshop
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
There are a multitude of benefits to journal writing, both scientifically documented and self-reported. The psychologist James Pennebaker has shown that writing about emotionally painful events increases immune functioning and Virginia Woolf felt that keeping a diary "loosens the ligaments" and sweeps up "the diamonds of the dustheap." Those who keep journals report better stress management, increased self-awareness, improvement in relationships, more effective goal-setting, and greater creativity. Through a number of techniques and in-class writing exercises this workshop will demonstrate ways to transform the traditional diary into an invaluable tool for personal development. Judy LeBlanc has been a certified Instructor in the Journal to the Self Workshop since 1995 when she trained with Kay Adams: http://journaltherapy.com/journaltherapy/
Over the years, she has facilitated groups of participants with a variety of interests in journaling from young mothers to aspiring creative writers. The one day workshop is an overview of the longer course. There will be an opportunity, though no expectation, to share writing in a small, supportive group. Journalling is fun, rewarding and life-enhancing.
