Jon Miller Quartet New CD Fundraiser
This fall Victoria based contemporary jazz group Jon Miller Quartet is very excited to be heading to the studio to record the follow up to the 2009 release "Orchidology." The upcoming house concert at Merlin's Sun Home Theatre will be a fundraiser for this project and will include a Silent Auction, CD Pre-Sales and and an opening set by acoustic folk pop group Close the Bombay Doors.
The working title for the Quartet's new CD is Sense of Place and it will feature new original materiel in the modern jazz idiom featured in the group's live shows and touring over the past year. The group plays music by all group members (Rob Cheramy guitar, Monik Nordine saxes, James Young bass, leader Miller on drums) and the title reflects the intention to capture a feeling that is unique to the time and place in which the music is created, particularly significant with music that is largely improvised.
The Silent Auction for this event is gaining momentum with a number of local businesses already on board. (Many thanks to all who have committed so far!) Participating Artists and Businesses include Slack Shack Studio, Cinecenta, Caffe Fantastico, Studio Ink and Groove Studios.
