Saturday, August 27th, 2011
11:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Saturday, August 27th will be a day of fun as the 500 & 600 blocks of Johnson Street turn into a giant street party complete with food, music, dunk tank and kids activities. But at the heart of this event lies a deeper goal; organizers would like to raise $6,000 to grant a wish to a Victoria child through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the heartfelt wishes of kids 3-17 who are battling a life-threatening medical condition and has already granted 7 Vancouver Island wishes this year; 3 of them for local Victoria kids.

The party gets started at 11:00 a.m. and goes until 6:00 p.m. Sponsoring radio station The ZONE-FM will be broadcasting live from the Festival between 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. The Festival is free to attend but attendees will have plenty of opportunities to make a donation to help grant a wish.

Over 40 local businesses along Johnson Street are getting into the spirit by selling paper wish stars in their stores for $2 each beginning on August 22nd. Theyll also be hosting activities like a skate ramp and art auction on August 27th. Victoria residents are invited to join in the Worlds Largest Yoga Class at 10:00 a.m. hosted by Lululemon.

ZONE-FM weekend reporter Shawn, the Zone Ranger will be in the dunk tank at 2:00 p.m.

Local wish families will be in attendance too to celebrate their wishes already coming true and lend their support so that other kids may know the power of a wish.

About the Make-A-Wish Foundation:
Since 1983, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon has made over 1,400 wishes come true for kids battling a life-threatening medical condition. Each wish provides a child and their immediate family a carefree and joyful experience that is far from the inherent stress and anxiety of having a life-threatening medical condition. Our goal is to refocus attention on the positive by providing a unique, once-in-a-lifetime wish experience that a family might not otherwise have. For more information visit www.makeawishbc.ca.

About the Johnson Street Festival:
The Johnson Street Festivals goal is to promote local area businesses while giving back to the community by providing a lively, safe and above all, FUN, festival for local residents.
