7:30 PM to 10:30 PM

The Joan Wallace Quartet promise you a great evening as they introduce some unforgettable music.
The original jazz and blues songs have a retro 1960s ambiance that will take you back to rainy nights in dimly lit jazz clubs.
Joan Wallace started her career as a folk singer in the glory days of the coffee house scene in Winnipeg. Later she sang blues & jazz professionally in Winnipeg clubs, CBC TV and radio.

She sang with the Ron Paley Trio & big band, as well as singing in a duo with acclaimed jazz guitarist Denis Hammerstedt. Since she moved to Nanaimo in1988, she has enjoyed working with some of Nanaimo’s best musicians, including Barry Hall and Myron Makepeace.

A 3 year stint in the popular Nanaimo acapella trio Mama’s Kitchen produced two CDs.

She wrote and performed Deep River: A Blues Journey, a history of the Blues from the cotton fields to the Civil Rights movement, at several venues on Vancouver Island, including Nanaimo’s Black History Month and The Nanaimo Blues Festival. She also wrote and performed The Harlem Renaissance, which highlighted the golden period of early jazz in 1920’s Harlem.

Recently, she began singing with THE MARTYS, a three piece jazz/blues hybrid trio, performing in local restaurants and summer festivals, including the 2012 Chemainus Jazz Festival.
