Although the serious problem of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant is currently the main focus of the International Press, it is only part of the tragic story unfolding in Japan. The massive earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck that country on March 11 have left thousands dead and many more stranded and homeless. The costs and casualties continue to grow.
Despite years of planning and preparation by the government of Japan, the country has suffered a serious blow to its economy and morale. What can we do to help? Concerned members of the town of Ladysmith and the surrounding community, including representation from the municipal government, business ,local service clubs and churches have banded together to dedicate themselves to helping to meet the ongoing disaster needs of our Asian neighbour.
Please join us next Sunday at the Ladysmith Secondary School Multipurpose room for an afternoon of music, videos and fellowship as part of our response to this tragedy. Funds raised at this event will be directed to a sister city in the devastated area.
As the Japanese say "Ganbaro!" Let's do our best!
