Spend the day on a beautiful sand beach on a private southern gulf island! Invasive Scotch Broom has had 50 years of soaking up the sun on the James Island sand spit, to the detriment of the rare native plant species that make their home on pacific coastal dune ecosystems like this one. Join the Nature Conservancy of Canada as we begin to restore this habitat by removing the invasive Scotch Broom! Volunteers should bring a lunch and water bottle, gloves if they have them and dress for the weather. Coffee, water and tea will be supplied as will boat transportation from Vancouver Island (near Sidney) to James Island. The event will run from 10am to 2pm on Thursday June 24th. To register as a volunteer please visit www.conservationvolunteers.ca or call 250-413-8024.
