Take your playing to the next level! Drum camp – a drumming extravaganza… Three days of drumming workshops in the beautiful Comox Valley (Royston Community Hall). Learn from expert World Beat instructor Jordan Hanson from the University of Victoria’s School of  Music. • You are welcome to mix & match workshops - take as many or as few as you would like.  • The workshops are open to all levels of playing experience.   • Instruments are  provided for all of the workshops, including djembes, krins, bass drums and xylophones. Details: Krin (Log Drums) (Sun. 1:30-3 pm) Krin are slit drums made of of hollowed logs, played with sticks. They are dynamic and fun to play! Interlocking rhythmic patterns plus a soloist create rich and beautifully melodic rhythms. Drum Improv Skills (Sun. 3-4:30 pm) How to look and sound good on your drum! Everyone wants to sound good on their drum – this special workshop will give you insider tips on how to play well in any situation. Exercises for speed, soloing ideas, and how to play djembe with different styles of music! Burundi Beat (Sun. 6-8 pm) The Burundi Beat from East Africa is performed on large wooden drums. This form of unified playing from Burundi is very powerful, yet easy to learn. You will learn the basic beat and a series of breaks, along with stops and starts that go with the rhythm.
