Take your playing to the next level! Drum camp – a drumming extravaganza… Three days of drumming workshops in the beautiful Comox Valley (Royston Community Hall). Learn from expert World Beat instructor Jordan Hanson from the University of Victoria’s School of  Music. • You are welcome to mix & match workshops - take as many or as few as you would like.  • The workshops are open to all levels of playing experience.   • Instruments are  provided for all of the workshops, including djembes, krins, bass drums and xylophones. Details: Intro to Balafon (Friday 1-3 pm) Learn the basic of balafon playing. African xylophones are so beautiful and rich in their melodies. If you have experience already, this workshop is also worth attending because we will be doing NEW rhythms not covered in previous classes. Burkina Beats (Friday 6-8 pm) Music from the cultural cross-roads! Burkina Faso is a small West African country located on the caravan routes. Over the centuries, Burkina music evolved into a style that represents many African traditions.

You will learn to play djembe, bass drums, gourd drums & shakers and balafons in the unique style of the legendary group Farafina! Brazilian Samba (Friday 8-9:30 pm) How to play Brazilian rhythms on hand drums (djembes work for this, too).

We will cover rhythms from the state of Bahia, which is the most "African" part of Brazil. We will cover some valuable technique on hand drums in this workshop as well.
