Learn from expert World Beat instructor Jordan Hanson from the University of Victoria’s School of Music. You are welcome to mix & match workshops - take as many or as few as you would like.The workshops are open to all levels of playing experience. Instruments are provided for all of the workshops, including djembes, krins, bass drums and xylophones.

Balafon Basics (Friday 3-5 pm) Learn the basic of balafon playing.African xylophones are so beautiful and rich in their melodies. If you have experience already, this workshop is also worth attending because we will be doing NEW rhythms not covered in previous classes.
Djembe & Balafon Rhythms (Friday 6-8 pm) Learn how to properly combine the djembe and balafon patterns together. Options to learn on either instrument. Understanding this will make your djembe playing more melodic and musical, and for balafon players, this will connection will help lock you in with the beat. Easy Djembe Rhythms that make you sound good!
(Friday 8-9:30 pm) Some of the most effective rhythms are the easiest to play! Learn simple djembe beats that you can play in traditional settings as well as with other situations like drum circles and jam sessions!
