Island Consort, "A Choral Cornucopia"
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
What do you do in naming a harvest of wonderful repertoire that has no obvious relationships?: call it a “cornucopia”. Island Consort presents “A Choral Cornucopia” which begins with Salish Song, and an acknowledgement to the Snuneymuxw 1st Nation. Music Director, Bruce Farquharson has divided the rest of the program into 4 sections; Sacred, Contemplative, Foreign and Folk, with four selections in each section. True to the choir’s origin in Early Music, there is one Late Renaissance work which fits nicely into the Sacred section. As Contemplative, the choir will sing a jazz ballad that echoes a rendition by Barbra Streisand. The Foreign section has a beautiful Latvian song arranged by Latvian ex-patriot and Okanagan Valley resident, Imant Raminsh. The last section, Folk, features a beautiful and simple negro spiritual. Every piece is a choral treasure and, collectively, the repertoire will touch many emotions and evoke many images. Pianist, Cheryl Satre, will accompany the choir on several pieces.
