Island Chamber Winds presents: A Spring Breeze
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Join us on Saturday March 1 in Victoria for another unique chamber music concert featuring conductor Ben Litzcke and local professional wind musicians from Victoria and Pender. This program spans over two centuries, from the early 1800s to the present day. Let us take you on a whirlwind tour of old and new sounds!
Most of the music is cheerful and optimistic, such as Nancy Galbraith's beautiful Dos Danzas Latinas, Igor Bázlik's folk-like Four Pieces for Wind Octet, and Svend Schultz's fun and irreverent Divertimento. We explore some heavier subject matter in Yunfei Li's Five Elements, a meditation on the state of imbalance in the world through the lens of ancient Chinese philosophy. A few shorter pieces round out this varied program, including Canadian composer Eleanor Daley's In Remembrance, arranged especially for us by Victoria local Scott MacInnes.
We are grateful to the CRD Arts & Culture Support Service, Thrifty Foods Hillside Mall, Wildwood Health & Performance, Long & McQuade and Ptarmigan Arts for their support of this concert series.
